Software vendors routinely release patches and upgrades to their products. These releases may include new functionality and/or fix existing defects. Requests for upgrades and patches will initiate a project which must be coordinated by all affected stakeholders. Please allow at least 3 weeks to ensure adequate testing time for all stakeholders. The project generally follows this pattern:
- Install in development instance
- Test development instance
- Technical and functional testing of all new features and bug fixes, as well as core processes that will be mission-critical during production launch
- This is usually a 2-4 week window depending size of the upgrade
- Install in preproduction instance
- Test in preproduction instance
- Technical and functional testing to ensure that any issues discovered in development testing have been fully resolved
- This is usually a 1-week window depending on the size of the upgrade and the number of issues found in development testing
- Install in production
- Test in production
- Technical and functional testing to ensure that all mission-critical functions are operating normally
- This must be done on the same day as installation as early as possible
