Teams: Using MS Teams to communicate and share resources within Massasoit Community College Faculty and Staff

  • Is documentation available for users of MS Teams at Massasoit?

Resolution

The following is a guide to the KB documentation available for users of MS Teams.

What is Teams?

Teams part of MS Office 365. It is a collaboration tool that allows users to work together and share information via a common space. MCC users will be assigned to groups (teams), through which they can chat, video conference, share a group calendar, and distribute assignments and other activities with other team members.

Is Teams the right tool for me?

While you can video conference with ZOOM or other like tools, Teams allows you to instantly connect with your group (your fellow Team members), and share files, schedules, and other information. Parts of Teams can be integrated with your MS Office applications. In other words, Teams allows you to streamline your work with your conferencing needs all within Office 365.

How do I get assigned to a Team?

You will be assigned to one or more teams based on your area of responsibility, committee work, etc. There are several ways to access your Teams space. The Teams app will be incorporated into your Windows desk top set up. The Office 365 Teams app is already available through MyMassasoit. There are also mobile apps for iPhone and Android.

Is Teams currently available?

Yes, all staff with assigned to a team can access through MyMassasoit. 

What will Teams look like in the different versions?

Fortunately, it generally looks the same in all environments, Windows 10, mobile app, Office 365 app iOS. The college will install your Windows 10 version. You can install the mobile version from your App store for free.

How do I make a Call in Teams?

The Calls app in Teams allows you to quickly call within the college via phone or video by selecting a person from your contact list and choosing the method (either phone or video) of communication.

How do I chat in Teams?

You can chat amongst Team members either as a group of one-on-one. 

The chat is designed to be easy for you to use other functions, such as add more people to the discussion, make a phone or video call, share a screen with the people you are chatting with, and format (or dress up) your text during your exchange.

What are Channels?

Teams are made up of channels, which are the topics or “conversations” you have with your team mates. Each channel is dedicated to a specific topic.

What does the OneDrive space do?

OneDrive space is provided to each Massasoit staff member and can be accessed through MyMassasoit.

Also, each Team also gets its own OneDrive space for use by all members in that Team.

What do the other little buttons do?

Various options in Teams can be accessed through a series of quick buttons.

Can set up a meeting with my team and link the two calendars together?

You can post meetings through your own Outlook Calendar and have them appear in the Team calendar.
