Issue/Question
- As a Massasoit employee, how do I set up forwarding from my @massasoit.edu emails to my @massasoit.mass.edu mailbox?
- I want to set up my Massasoit emails so that I only have one mailbox I need to check, without missing any emails.
Resolution
How employee emails work
Every employee at Massasoit has two email addresses - username@massasoit.edu and username@massasoit.mass.edu.
- The @massasoit.edu email is typically referred to as the "student" email and is hosted by Gmail. You can access it by logging into the MyMassasoit Portal and clicking on Massasoit Gmail in the Launchpad card. This is the email address and system given to students at the college; it's the only email address students are given.
- The @massasoit.mass.edu email is hosted by Microsoft and typically the primary email used by employees. You can access it by logging into the MyMassasoit Portal and clicking on Outlook in the Launchpad card, or by using Microsoft Outlook on a MCC computer.
While employees typically treat their Outlook email as their primary email address and that's where official communication from the college typically goes, students may sometimes send emails to their instructors at the Google email address because it's what they're familiar with. To make sure you don't miss any emails, you can set up automatic forwarding from your Google email to your Outlook email. At this time, automatic forwarding from an Outlook mailbox to another is not permitted.
How to auto-forward your emails
- First, log into the MyMassasoit Portal and click on Massasoit Gmail to access your Google mailbox.
- Click on the Cogwheel (1) icon in the top-right corner of the page for Settings, then click See all settings (2).
- Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP (1) tab, then click Add a forwarding address (2).
- Enter your Outlook email address (@massasoit.mass.edu) in the prompt and click Proceed.
- A verification email will be sent to your Outlook email with the subject "MyMassasoit Apps Forwarding Confirmation." Click the link in that email to complete the setup.
- All said and done, your Forwarding and POP/IMAP settings should look like this, be sure to select "Forward a copy of incoming mail to" rather than leaving it on Disable forwarding:

- "Keep MyMassasoit Apps Mail's copy in the inbox" will leave your Gmail's inbox unchanged, showing all emails the way they arrived while still forwarding them. You can change this option so the emails get marked as read, archived, or deleted if you'd like.
- Once you've confirmed the settings and made any changes to how you'd like the forwarding to work, click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
- If the setting was already set to "Forward a copy of incoming mail" and you didn't make any changes to how the emails are handled, the Save Changes button may be greyed out. In this case, you're all set and forwarding has been successfully set up.
Auto-forwarding has now been successfully set up. Your emails will now all arrive in your Outlook inbox!
More information & help
- After setting this up, emails that were sent to your @massasoit.edu address will appear in your Outlook inbox.
- Forwarded emails don't get altered in any way, such as adding a "FW:" in the subject line, they simply appear in your inbox as though they were sent to your @massasoit.mass.edu email from the start.
- You can tell an email was automatically forwarded to your Outlook inbox by checking the "To" or "CC" fields in any email you receive to see which email address the sender used.
- If you Reply to an email that was forwarded from your Gmail to your Outlook, it will work normally, as though you're replying straight to the original email, to the original sender.
