Issue/Question
- How do I move files from the Hard Drive on my Desktop or Laptop to OneDrive?
- I have been asked to use OneDrive to make space on my device, how do I do this?
Resolution
Windows 11:
- Locate the file, group of files, or folder, that you would like to transfer to OneDrive. As you can see in the example, the highlighted file has a a green circle check mark, indicating that it is stored locally.

- Right click the file, then select "Show more options".

- Select "Free up space" option in the new menu.

- Notice that the green check mark icon next to the file has turned into a blue cloud icon. This indicates that the file has been successfully migrated to OneDrive, and is no longer occupying space on your Hard Drive.

Congratulations, you have just saved space on your device! Repeat this process as needed.
Important Notes
- You can do this to many files at once by selecting them before right clicking.
- You can move entire folders over to OneDrive.
- You can move different file types, such as videos, pictures, music, spreadsheets, and more.
