What are HEIC files?
HEIC files are a newer alternative to other image file types such as .jpg, .bmp, and .png. It has been adopted by Apple, so when people take photos with their iPhone or iPad, it is saved as a HEIC file by default.
- Windows computers are able to open most image files, but are not able to open HEIC files by default.
- Other devices, like phones and Mac computers, are usually able to open HEIC files with some exceptions.
How can I open HEIC files on my Windows computer?
Windows generally has a hard time opening HEIC files. ITS currently recommends downloading File Viewer Plus 4 from the Microsoft Store, which will help with opening HEIC files.
- To do this, navigate to the Microsoft Store by searching for it in the Search Bar.
- Once you're in the Microsoft Store, search for "File Viewer Plus 4" and click on the result to go to the application's page.
- Click "Get" to download the application.
