- The information on my Massasoit student account is incorrect. How do I get it corrected?
- I'd like to change the first name on my Massasoit account to a preferred name, different from my legal name.
Resolution
Name is incorrect/inaccurate
Sometimes, students end up with an incorrect name listed for their account. This can happen due to a number of reasons; most commonly, a typo was made during the application or admission process, or someone's name has changed in the time since they became a student.
Correcting your name in your Massasoit student records as well as your username and email address is a process that involves multiple departments:

Contact Student Central to change your name.

Firstly, Student Central will need to update your student records to reflect your correct name.

You can reach Student Central for help with this via email at studentcentral@massasoit.mass.edu, by phone at 508-588-9100 extension 1949, or by visiting in-person at SC226 (in the Student Center cafeteria in Brockton).

Student Central can update your student records for any other personal information as well, such as your home address or phone number.

Contact the ITS Help Desk to change your username/email address.

If your Massasoit username/email address is impacted by the error in your name, that will also need to be corrected. This is a separate process from Student Central correcting your name, and ITS can only update your username once step 1 above has been completed and your student records are accurate.

Listing a preferred/chosen first name
Students have the ability to list a preferred name on their record which is different from their legal name.
You can do this by following these steps:

Log into the MyMassasoit Portal.

Click on the 3-line menu in the top-left corner of the page, then click on Resources to expand that menu, then click Personal Information.

In the Personal Details section, click Edit. If you don't see an Edit button, click View Full Profile first.

Enter your preferred name in the Chosen First Name field. You may also optionally select your gender and pronouns on this page if you'd like, but you aren't required to. Once you're done entering the information, click Update.

(Username/email address) Once you've set your preferred name, you'll need to Contact the ITS Help Desk if you'd like your username/email address changed to reflect it. Typically, this only applies if the first letter of your preferred name differs from the first letter of the name that was on record when your username was created.

For example, if someone with the legal name Riley sets their preferred name to Rowan, their username would not need to be changed, since both names would result in the username rlastname.
